Huichol art is a form of writing that tells the stories and myths of the Huichol people. The Huichol are an indigenous group of native Mexicans who live in the Sierra Madre Occidental range in the states of Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango, and Zacatecas. The name Huichol comesfrom the word Wirriarika, which means medicine man or soothsayer. Huicholart is known for its colorful artwork, which expresses the Huichol people's reverence for nature, including earth, water, fire, and air. The art is handmade by the Wixaritari artisans.
