Huichol art is a form of writing that tells the stories and myths of the Huichol people. The Huichol are an indigenous group of native Mexicans who live in the Sierra Madre Occidental range in the states of Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango, and Zacatecas. The name Huichol comes from the word Wirriarika, which means medicine man or soothsayer.

Huichol art is known for its colorful artwork, which expresses the Huichol people's reverence for nature, including earth, water, fire, and air. The art is handmade by the Wixaritari artisans.

The technique for Huichol beading is simple:

  1. Take a pea-sized lump of a wax-pitch mixture.
  2. Knead it in your fingers until soft.
  3. Flatten it out to the size of a quarter.
  4. Press it onto the item to be decorated.
  5. Place the beads onto the wax and press.
